: as an excuse to redesign the Powerbook from scratch, as they've done with
: every other recent major transition (original PBG4, iMac G4, desktop G5,
: iMac G5). The desktop G5 also turned out to be much larger than the G4
: towers it replaced; maybe they'll be willing to do something similar for
: the Powerbook.
I would really hate to see them do that with the PowerBook - I really like the current form factor. Still, raw processing power is the issue in the end. I'm not sure that chip size is the most significant factor, as a wafer can be made as thin as needed, but heat dissipation is another matter. The current PBs get incredibly hot as is, and then there's the issue of power requirements. I don't know if the technology will be ready in time, but I wouldn't be surprised if Apple is the first to use a methanol-based fuel cell in a laptop - that would solve the power problem and might leave enough power to use a liquid cooling system.
