Actually, it would probably be easier to start from scratch if you were a programmer. Reverse engineering a whole program is a tremendous feat, to get it back to something you could actually compile. Reverse engineering is mostly used by hackers to get serial numbers, make patches, hacks, etc. Might be possible to make patches that would change parts of Forge of course...
