In Response To: Re: Durandal's Ship's layout in Rubicon (Jon)

: As far as I know, the only time we got a look at what would become the
: Rozinante in the entire Marathon series was in the M2 level Requium for
: a Cyborg . That probably won’t help you very much, but it could give you a
: starting off point.

Thanks for posting here, Jon, as this gives me a chance to correct an obvious error. My post above was in response to Ernie's request for more info on the layout of the Rozinante for WMaiD. Unfortunately, I was very wrong about the ship in Requium being the Rozinante. The ship we cleared out in that M2 level was the Hfarl, which we later learned was the ship that Blake and his men used to return to Earth. We never actually have a chance to visit the Rozinante anywhere in the Marathon trilogy. Thus, Ernie had a blank slate to work with.

: If you will download the Rubicon net levels, you will find that number 32 of
: the batch is called Rozinante! and is the ship converted to a network
: level. Some walls have been opened up, but it's basically the whole
: ship--with some areas never seen in the real game visible. I can't
: remember how it compares to the M2 level, but I think this Rozinante!
: level probably shows as much as you will find anywhere else. And it would
: make a good starting place for a non-network level--simply close off some
: walls, etc. There are also some doors that obviously lead nowhere, and
: "off" the map, that one could "fill in." Well, here's
: hoping that somebody, someday finds this. :-)

Yes, that is true. We never discussed this in the Rubicon Volunteers Series because we only discussed the solo levels, but Rozinante! is a good jumping off point and I suspect that that is what Ernie did for WMaiD. He has also used some retextured parts of Begging for Mercy makes me angry, doing a fairly good extrapolation of what Durandal's core might look like on the Rozinante. WMaiD is definitely getting there, but Ernie has had some new thoughts on the plot and that, as we all know, can be dangerous to a scenario's completion. Each successive "final" beta he has sent me has been significantly better than the last and I'm sure the final result will be a blast to play.
