I don't see a problem with it just being a network which people can gather games and join games as they please as we would in the real world (if there were any other opponents around these days).

Of course, for organising games, maybe an instant form of communication would be needed such as chat, otherwise things could be difficult.

Anyway, I think its a good idea. We'd be able to have annual tournments!

Although, would someone like me with a 56k connection be able to play? I remember hearing that Aleph One, which has internet support, can only be played (at a decent fps) through a broadband connection...
