|Halo: First Strike and Marathon 2|

Ok, I have noticed a lot of opinions on the Halo books, but here is something that is actually Marathon related. I played through all of the Marathon games when they first came out back on my original Mac. Loved them. This weekend I read Halo : First Strike. Now, I am wondering about something.
I am a little rusty, but as I recall, after you captured a Pfhor ship, Durandal modified the Pfhor weapons into longer range cannons that he used to destroy a good portion of a fleet. He runs into a version of Tycho, a human AI, and destroys him as well. Then again, you crash Tychos ship into a moon and carve his epitaph on the surface with an orbital strike.
Anyway, am I nuts or are these story lines a little to similar?
