The average post is maybe 50k, with pictures and text. Refresh it 100 times, you've wasted 5 megs of bandwidth. This is trivial (the server that houses this forum sits on a pipe that can spit out more than 10 gigs a day without too much trouble) - but if enough people start doing it, it'll add up... and there's actually a risk of crashing the server if the forum script is hit too many times nearly simultaneously. (It's happened once or twice - and I'm sure ferrex can tell stories of it happening at the Core, probably during the changeover to Rampancy.net.)

It would take a lot of people acting like idiots before a real difference was made, or any real damage was done.
