Apologies for the lack of updates recently - lots going on these days. One problem has been some hardware troubles here - one of the side effects is a very slow network connection. To help ease my own pain, I finally got around to something that's been on the to-do list for months; I changed the forum over to a style-sheet run page. This means a LOT of table cell formatting disappears. Example: I've got my forum prefs set to Mixed Threaded Listing, showing posts from the last 2 days. The old-style index page was 196K of text in that mode. The new one is 124K. Multiply that by a few forum loads... and you should see why things might be snappier. ;) (Your prefs will determine how much text you need to load each time you update the index - for example, in 'compressed' format, with 2 days of posts showing, the index is 26k.) This definitely helps ME - hopefully, it helps some of you, as well. | |
