In Response To: Re: Weaponized Transhumans: Halo, Deus Ex, Crysis. (ZackDark) : Except for that bits in the datapads in Reach and the Terminals in H3, Halo : was never about human usefulness. Sure, you can easily interpret it that : way (you did it wonderfully, for example), but I can't see as a conscious : choice from Bungie. Maybe not - but there's a school of thought (which I subscribe to!) which believes that once a text - book, movie, game - is written and released, the intent of the creator becomes irrelevant. We pay attention to what the text says, not what the creators want it to say! Also, there are smart people at Bungie. Frankie is smart; he likes Culture books (this means you are smart, it is a law.) A lot of Halo was influenced by good SF. It was also influenced by Marathon, which is quite explicitly about AIs trying to transcend their human makers! : I have not played Crysis 2, nor know enough about its story to comment upon
Crysis 2 has the good fortune to have been written by Richard Morgan, with a novelization by Peter Watts - two excellent SF writers who deal with the way technology changes people. I can't speak for all of Crytek, but I can guarantee that those themes were on Morgan and Watts' minds. : Anyway, beautifully written, Battuta, as you always do! Thank you! Sometimes I just get the urge to type all these words
