How To: The LNoS Beach BOB | |

Essentially: the Drop Pod BOB on Long Night of Solace will only arrive when a drop ship is leaving. If he arrives when the pier dropship is leaving, he will insta-despawn. If he arrives when the beach dropship is leaving, he will despawn in 8-10 seconds, long enough for you to wipe him out. See below for a very (perhaps too) thorough write-up and walkthrough. This guy gave me trouble for quite some time. He arrives via Drop Pod in one of three locations randomly:
Added to that, there's a random chance he won't arrive in this location at all. If you follow the below directions and he's not showing up, you'll need to Save and Quit, re-select the level so you lose your mission progress, and re-enter the level. The more significant issue with this BOB is his tendency to de-spawn once his feet touch the ground. When this happens, you have about two seconds to kill him. I tried everything I could think of; nothing was fast enough. I was about to give up when I saw some videos where the BOB stuck around for closer to ten seconds. What was the trick? Good old-fashioned trial-and-error revealed the problem. I'm not sure if it's glitched or intentional, but here's what I learned about this BOB: 1. He will only drop in after the Wraith is destroyed or moved away from the pier.
Just to clarify, here's the pier dropship:
And here's the beach dropship:
So, the trick is to get the BOB to drop in while the beach dropship is leaving, but prevent BOB from dropping in while the pier dropship is leaving. This requires some careful timing. Essentially, once the door to the launch facility opens, you have to take out the wraith and then quickly take out the enemies that the beach dropship dropped off when the door opened. If you leave too much time between these two tasks, the BOB will drop when the pier dropship is leaving, and then instantly despawn. The goal is to time it so that the beach dropship is arriving just as the pier dropship is leaving. This will block the BOB's arrival until the beach dropship leaves, at which point he'll arrive and stay around long enough for you to take him out. This is all a little complicated, so here's a video showing how I did it. Keep in mind it's not necessary to grab the sniper rifle or rockets, but I wanted to use these to take out the beach enemies quickly. If you want to do this on Legendary (as in this video) some power weapons will help.
Keep in mind that you don't need to destroy the Wraith, but if you don't blow it up you need to move it away from the pier. Also, you can wipe out the BOB at any of the three drop points you wish, but I found this one to be the easiest. This BOB is furthest from any other enemies, and the hill provides some cover from the Spirit bombs. You're also close enough to his other drop point that you can effectively monitor two possible spawn locations at the same time. If he lands at the second location in the pictures above, you can still try to take him out, but you'll have to watch out for the enemies that were just dropped off by the pier dropship. In the video, you can see the beach dropship coming in at 1:14, and the pier dropship leaving at about 1:20. If I hadn't taken out the beach enemies quickly, the beach dropship wouldn't have arrived in time, and the BOB would have dropped in when the pier dropship left. He would have then insta-despawned. Also keep in mind that once the door opens, not only does the beach dropship arrive but so does a Pelican loaded with Marines. While you're moving into the facility and taking out the Wraith, the Marines are fighting Covies on the beach. Here's a video showing the whole thing from a perspective that shows the dropships, the Pelican, and the drop pod coming and going:
Both videos start shortly after I get the checkpoint when the facility door opens. You won't get another checkpoint while you're out here, so as long as the Wraith is intact when the checkpoint loads, you can keep retrying until you get the timing right. Also make sure you take out all the enemies on the beach normally (don't use the shortcut through the water to avoid them) because they do not despawn. If you run past them, they'll be shooting you while you're waiting for the BOB. So, here's a summary of what you need to do: 1. Move through the level normally, taking out enemies and moving up the beach, until the door opens and the checkpoint loads.
Hopefully this helps. I'll keep an eye on the thread if anyone has questions. I've actually gotten this to work several times over a couple of games, so I'm pretty sure this is the best way to do it.
Thanks to everyone for the renders, and good luck! (you'll need it if even RC had trouble with this one...)
