: No, what I'm saying is despite what a Bungie employee said about our beloved : sarge simply being called Sniper Sergeant and not having a name, we're : indicating that the name Johnson was known for a long time before Halo 2 : having been a part of his texture file and having his name in the first : game's credits. Marty has said more than once that 'Chips Dubbo' is just a silly play on an Australian name; the character was never intended to be NAMED that. Yet that name is in the credits. It's a joke. 'Sgt Johnson' was something someone whipped up for the credits so that it wouldn't say 'Sniper Sergeant'. If Joe tells you "Bungie didn't intend for him to have a name", then he wasn't supposed to have a name. Period. Just because he was GIVEN a name for things that are easier with names doesn't mean you can (or should) take that name as canon.
