: I was going to mention this before and this is a good time, I talk about : things I think I remember and mention 343 GS floating by after the credits : (which I kind of just did and it fits) but the real support here is the : last lines of the game: "Halo. It's finished." "No, I think : we're just getting started." If that doesn't say "oh hey there's : going to be a sequel" I don't know what does. It doesn't make sense : taken any other way. I've addressed this before. H1 is a complete story. It could continue or not. The fact that the characters hint that *their* adventure goes on does not mean that those adventures will be chronicled. The same applies to the ending of Halo 3. In any case I do think that Bungie (or at least MS) planned to do a Halo 2. Bungie did Marathon 2 and Myth 2. They just never did a third installment of anything before Halo-- and that matches up with Bungie originally planning the Halo series to end with 2 and then being unable to complete that on time for launch, which was a date set in stone (or at least on skin) by Microsoft. He'd be stupid to disagree that that Halo
I'd argue that to the end of the earth. It is not a fourth wall break, at least not an explicit one. An explicit fourth wall break only makes sense as one. When David Addison turns to the camera in Moonlighting and addresses the audience-- because there is no one else to talk to-- it's an explicit fourth wall break because it can't be anything else. "We're just getting started" by the Chief makes sense *either* as a fourth wall break or just a reply to Cortana. It works either way, and means the same thing in both contexts: that there are other rings, and likely other Flood, and certainly more Covenant, so this thing is not over. That would still be true even if Halo 1 was a dismal flop that never earned a sequel, or if it was a hit, but Bungie got tired of the idea and decided to make something else entirely. Not every character is a proxy for the author. Those characters have a future even if the author never chronicles it, and the endings of Halo 1 and Halo 3 both bear that out.
