Better continuity, I think, it would be very difficult to demonstrate led to higher sales of the novel or the games, and as such, it would have been difficult to justify spending more on, in terms of manpower. If no more additional manpower was required, then it comes back to allegations of incompetence. That has what made some stuff fall : through the cracks although I applaud 343i for doing what they can to help : mitigate that now, albeit a little late in the game. It can get better. What, exactly, are they doing now? As far as the last... no, it can't get "better". Unless they're going to reissue the novels, the games-- or perhaps both-- with continuity errors rectified, it can't get better. It can only get worse. Fixing conflicts by making up and releasing new materials only introduces, inevitably, more conflicts-- like the Boren Syndrome episode. It's like slathering ever more glue on two broken pieces of plastic that never quite fit-- the result just ends up being an unsightly mess. The conflicts can only be resolved by revising and reissuing the above materials, or by actually publishing a definitive list of what facts from each source are canonical and which aren't-- which would then become an ironclad guide for debunking later, inevitable inconsistencies, which is why I don't think it could be done successfully.
