Re: My Comprehensive-ish Argument With Narcogen

: I'm not following you on why those are contradictory, and taking into account
: I'm pretty sure he's saying the model isn't so important to focus on
: because of peculiarities to video games, and that people can "latch
: onto" a general design instead of minute details, I would in fact say
: the latter reinforces the former: A glance at the Autumn tells you almost
: all you know need to know about it that's ever important for the story:
: it's a big freakin' ship that travels through space and has weapons, and
: that impression is given by the old version, the new version, and even the
: substitution in Halo 2. The only exception I know of is the retrofitting
: of extra support and new MACs, explaining why it wasn't a pile of rubble
: by the time it crashed into Installation 04, which was never mentioned in
: the game. I figured it was usual-- knowing it's not, you could assume it
: was Cortana's skills, or maybe the Chief is just that lucky-- but really
: the important thing is they don't do anything to discount the retrofitting
: in Reach, so presumably it's there. Thus everything important about it is
: intact, and in fact it's not much more inconsistent than before, what with
: the two different lengths for it (three if you count the books? I don't
: remember if they state a length too)-- I mean really, they have something
: like that in the first game and top of that the substitution in Halo 2 and
: then the size issue(s) with the Dawn in Halo 3, and you still hold on to
: some imaginary unified version of the Autumn? I like consistency in this
: stuff as much as you guys and I think the efforts to figure out things
: that aren't spelled out are both impressive and appreciated, if only by
: people who have a similar attention to detail, but some things in Halo are
: lost causes, and some of them have been for a while now.

What's the size issue with the Dawn? Never heard this before.

The Autumn is the same size in the beginning and end of Halo 1, it's just that the race course is a separate level and is not actually in the Autumn model at all. And that is way too long, but it's chalked up to gameplay as driving the actual length of the autumn would have only taken a minute or less.
