: To say that Bungie didn't care at all is at best rude and at worst utterly : disrespectful. I do think Bungie cares. But the fact that they did not put their writing A-team on Reach - and produced a lower-quality narrative as a result, even setting aside the issue of retcons, shows that they did not care as much about Reach as their other products. It's not Bungie's fault. Few if any studios in the industry, with the possible exception of Valve, Obsidian, and Rockstar, put a priority on good writing. (Bioware consistently produces okay writing.) It just feels like...a shame, especially with works of genuine literary merit like Marathon in their history.
