To me it shows they didn't care in the first place about that particular section of it, and I'm OK with that as we don't know how much say they had in the novels (except Contact Harvest) and it's possible they even had something else in mind the whole time and weren't able to communicate it to Nylund at the time because all parties were busy on their own projects. This does contribute to something I mentioned a (long) while back, the Haloverse no longer being consistent with itself, but I'm now wondering if that was ever really sustainable for a successful property, let alone something as successful as Halo-- and I do wish it could be consistent, and feel more seamless because of that consistency, but that chance is gone, and I won't mourn its loss, because what were good stories before are still good stories, and the major themes, forces, and characters remain intact. This is starting to make have different and possibly weird ideas about what canon is as a concept, how relevant it is, and whether or not it smacks of a deeper desire to know everything and have everything be predictable (and possibly go on and predict it), but it's all a mess in my head right now and it would probably take this already off-topic thread off its supposed topic (and into a ditch).
