Re: Why retcons don't bother me anymore

: I think my canon considerations with banshees get overridden by gameplay
: considerations. I haven't really enjoyed them since Halo 1. As for how the
: canon could explain all the changes... I guess I haven't tried. They're
: far too sweeping to explain any way other then "well, it's a game,
: they have to change stuff", especially where there are faults.

: Yeah I think it's possible nobody really thought about whether or not the
: troop bay should or could communicate with the cockpit when making the new
: Spirit models, as it affects neither plot nor gameplay. They probably
: haven't yet appointed a design coordinator in charge of "What Will
: Stephen Loftus Think" although perhaps they should :)

I agree. See, it's not just a game vehicle. In my mind it's a real vehicle and certain design considerations should be there. How do the pilots get in the Reach Spirit? Landed, there's no way without having to somehow clamber over it and that seems like something essential, even though it's not necessary for the way they're used in game. I don't know why that sort of question wouldn't come up in a design meeting. 'It's a vehicle...how do people get in?'

I really want to ask the designer of Cairo Station about it. The model looks great but the Pelican bay doors cannot open to space as they appear on the inside of the bay. I'd really like to know how they expected to get Pelicans out. I still have a text file on my PC desktop with design questions about Cairo Station for years now.

I try to extend the fiction to include what we don't explicitly see.

To me, it's a supreme waste to see the effort that goes into making these weapons and vehicle and characters and environments and all that usually is done with them is a game is made. There's soooo much potential that could be had. More books could be made to flesh out the weapons and vehicles, other animated stories could be made using those assets. Maps or globes of the worlds seen in Halo could be made. Books detailing diagrams, cutaways, and a plethora of info could be done. I'd love to see Halo expand far beyond just games and novels. They put so much time and thought into the game assets and usually we only get a game. I'd love to see more.
