: This is my personal opinion, but I believe that people should take the games : at face value as the source. Supplemental materials such as novels, : comics, and other tie-ins are nice, but should not dictate the story (yes, : even if they came first). The Empire Strikes Back would have been a much : different movie if Lucas incorporated "Splinter of the Mid's : Eye" into the canon - and it would've lost everyone that hadn't read : it. Seems to me like we've lost something here, something Bungie used to say. Remember how Staten (I think it was staten by Staten) used to say that their goal was that the novels should be supplementary to the games. You don't have to read the novels to understand the games. But... Why /can't/ the two be in agreement? Isn't that what 'supplementary' means? Every time it's come up, I've done my best to ignore that Staten laid down the canon hierarchy, because it shouldn't exist. If this Halo Bible existed, and it was available to the writers (comic and novel) then the contradictions shouldn't happen. It's like what somebody said here, there used to be something special about the Haloverse. Used to be, we could speculate about what the future was going to hold, because there were these mysteries Bungie was leaving us, because they had a plan. And now that Bungie kinda let up on the mysteries, now that it's quite clear that the whole plan was talk, Halo has lost that. : And yes, I recognize the fact that there are some inconsistencies between the : games themselves (how did Miranda and Johnson get back to Earth?). Obviously, Medicant Bias was connected to the Dreadnought and was slowing its passage to Earth, so as to give the Separatists and Humanity time to stop Truth. : This is : why I applauded the original post to begin with. Sometimes, in movies and : games, things happen when you have to take a revisionist approach in order : to make the game fun or the cinematics concise. Not to this extent.
