Re: Why retcons don't bother me anymore

: Not true. Bitching about canon inconsistencies had direct effects on some of
: the development process of Halo Wars. There were still plenty of canon
: flaws, but changes did occur due to community backlash.

News to me. I recall some unhappiness (I was one of them with the bulky Elites, and those didn't really change much), but as for changes in the development, I don't recall the community having a single thing to do with any changes. A lot of the development was in the dark anyway.

I do remember that there was a lot of back and forth in regards to concept art from staff within Microsoft who insisted things like the design of the Arbiter had to be more in keeping with Halo 2 and Halo 3, but that's completely different from the community.

: Yes, but again, the two aren't mutually exclusive and can be crafted together
: to respect previous canon and writing.

Never said they were mutually exclusive. Just pointing out that, overall, I consider compromise on story to be a lesser evil than compromise on the game itself.
Besides, I've always felt that certain aspects of the original 'canon' didn't really deserve all that much respect, such as when the Elites were first encountered, the means of artificial gravity on human ships, or the notion that it was possible for anyone to be immune to the Flood.
All three of those have been adjusted, and I'm happier that they have been.
