I figured the : ringed one was a small version of a gas giant, but I'm not sure how small : such a world could actually get. I would think that if it were watery the : actual motion of the water might gravitationally destabilize the rings and : there'd be none in short order. I can see why water might be suggested : from the opening MS and Bungie logos, but I thin the effect you see is : actually the textures coming within draw distance. It has the look of a : wave moving across the surface, but you see the same effect in game when : you rapidly approach a texture's draw distance. I'm thinking a gas world : until I find out differently. Nah. There's no way it'd be a "gas moon." The reason gas giants are gassy is because they're giant. IIRC, if a protoplanet gets big enough, say 10 Earth masses, it starts to accumulate a gaseous envelope. That was the case with Jupiter and Saturn. Anything small like a moon, especially the moon of a terrestrial planet, will largely be a terrestrial body. Hence, I'm thinking it's rocky and either simply has a moon-wide ocean or a thick, opaque atmosphere, the latter making it like a warmer version of Titan. As for its rings, perhaps there was a collision of two rocky bodies nearby or another smaller body got to close (within the Roche limit) and was torn apart by tidal forces.
