I couldn't tell you the number of times I've been tossed by a gravity hammer blast and lived (usually not very far unless I'm in mid-jump or have cowbell on, but I have gone some distance a few times without either of those conditions)-- I've had it happen to me with grenades on easy too (and I think normal).
