We know that there were other races in the galaxy apart from the Forerunners. These ones did look suspiciously Buddhist but I don't know what to make of that. I don't have a problem with the Asian look of the buildings. They are not necessarily Forerunner structures and I can accept that Asian artists may want to draw Asian styled buildings. That is their prerogative. Buddhist looking aliens may be taking things to far but maybe 343 is saying something that will become apparent later.
