These are either mistakes on the part of the writer/editor or it's time to rethink the explanations for these plates (as well as KPD 005J). Considering some of the other mistakes I've noticed in the encyclopedia, I'm hesitant to go back to the drawing board. Incidentally, the text very specifically notes both Kirk and Rene for having "Washed Out" of the spartan program.
