: It seemed pretty ridiculous basing all of that dismay on a tiny map graphic
: used in a multiplayer map from Halo 2 .

: But if you watch the Field Expedient cutscene from Halo 2, it seems pretty
: clear that in Halo 2, the space elevator was inside the city, not on a
: little island (even given that Halo 2 wasn't capable of rendering the city
: in grand detail and I had to look really hard to figure out that the
: ground texture was supposed to be "city" and not
: "water").

: But let me ask you.. would you prefer that Bungie hold to that facet of New
: Mombasa as set in stone, unalterable cannon and be forced to design the
: gameworld of ODST around it, disregarding the freedom in environmental
: design that could heavily influence gameplay, artistic elements, and the
: flow of the entire experience?

: I mean, it is something that you have to try really hard to have even noticed
: in the first place. Personally, I like the new design, and I also think it
: does make sense. I'm not going to get all disappointed that Bungie didn't
: know blah years ago that they would be making ODST and "get it right
: the first time".. we're all human :)

I'd prefer it had stayed land-locked, for even structural reasons, so I am a little disappointed at the retcon. And I was well aware of where it was in Halo 2. :)
