: They wrote the story. I'm guessing by the reaction we've seen to this update,
: we didn't know a lot of that before (though I've got a feeling we'd
: figured most of it out). If that's the case, if the fans wanted to fight
: elites Bungie still could have accommodated them within the confines of
: the story as we knew it. Not to do so seems kind of mean. Or maybe lazy
: because Halo 3 was already set up to feature brutes as the main enemy and
: not elites.

: I don't know.

But this is still a super-expansion-pack-thingy - I mean, I'm surprised we're not getting MORE re-hashed Halo 3 stuff. If someone told me Bungie was making an expansion pack with an ODST as the hero, I'd imagine running through the levels of Halo 3 backwards fighting flood with a pinch of new stuff here and there. Now we're getting a whole new story and segment in the story. And if I could pick what was going to be the 'new stuff' in an expansion pack, I would have traded a memorable enemy (which I played the hell out of in Halo 1) to be able to explore an explorable, invaded, futuristic city... but I am partial to futuristic cities.

I'm also an ardent believer that a creator's work will ultimately be better if he goes with mostly his gut instinct and personal motivations instead of catering to fans or an audience... Might not end up a commerical-success, of course... So I agree with Jillybean's happy surprise.
