: Good catch, Jillybean! It's been so long since I wrote that speculation that : I forgot about Cortana's broken speech. On the level Cortana in Halo 3, as : you're walking down the hallway right before you rescue Cortana, I think : she states an error code and her AI ID code number. : It's possible, but not likely, that she used the replication software to : duplicate herself. The Gravemind might have been talking to a replicated : (not a full copy) version of Cortana the whole time. Interesting! For a moment of safety I risked damnation (or something like that) It would be a good way to make sure you didn't give out any data - if you actually didn't know the data in the first place. Gravemind would have to smash through maybe hundreds of copies to reach Cortana - which is a pretty smart safety.
