: This has probably been brought up before but here I go. : My question is this: Why did the Forerunners continue to insist on employing
This is an absolutely huge thread, and I apologize if this has been discussed.
It seems to suggest inaction killed the Forerunners. For whatever reason, it was a lack of will, of action, against the Flood. Compare this to the Master Chief's reaction to the discovery of a new Installation 04. 343 Guilt Spark: 'What will you do?' Master Chief: 'Light it.' No hesitation, no second thoughts. Of course, he has the ability. Most importantly, he has the will. Perhaps this is what the Forerunner found so 'special' about humanity? ----------------------------------------------------------------------
In the end, however, we do know that Didact learned from his and his race’s inaction. He paid a heavy cost for this knowledge and that cost compelled him to warn all future worlds of not only the parasite, but about the peril of hesitation – about recognizing absolute evil and not staying your hand when it threatens the innocent. The petition is to live in the future, not the past. This, I believe, is the heart of their personal story and on a far greater level, the story of the Forerunner race. It is their message to humanity - their epitaph: 'This is my final entry, and I am left with one hope. That one day, someone, anyone is around to witness this warning. If you are that witness, and it seems we pinned all our hopes on this single suicidal plan - know that a thousand other plans were tried and failed. Millions of brave and honored souls died trying to avert this terrible, desperate situation. Know that energetic and tenacious as life is, it has an antithesis just as powerful. It is that thing which we must obliterate.' http://blog.ascendantjustice.com/halo-3/the-terminals/shediedineden4/
