: The weren't Spartan I's before the Spartan II's. They were called Spartan : II's because they were named after the original Spartans of ancient : Greece. They were the Spartan I's... it's in the novel, just read more : closely. Halo: The Flood, Halo Graphic Novel, and Contact Harvest disagree
