Let me expound upon this thought a little more before I leave work.

I understand that my previous thought would require the spores to have at least a hint of sentience and that may cause them to be affected by the halos.

What I have been pondering is that the spores, even with sentience, wouldn't be killed by the halos because they don't have "sufficient biomass." I see them as having the same biomass as say a squirrel (a rather large squirrel, but still...). I also believe that a squirrel doesn't have sufficient biomass to support the flood, thus would not be killed by the halos.

Now these ideas can work together or independently, so just think about them as such. Thanks for listening if you did ;)
