Re: Halo 3's ad campaign - canon?
Posted By: Cthulhu117Date: 4/8/08 7:41 a.m.

: I got thinking this because of this post
: http://carnage.bungie.org/haloforum/halo.forum.pl?read=872911 and ILB
: came up... again,

: Has there been any official statement on halo 3's advertising campaign and
: how much of it is seen as part of the official story arc?

: I think there were the following.
: Starry Night (ESPN TV ad)
: IRIS (Halo3.com and adjuntant reflex, SOTA)
: Neil Blomkamps weta films
: The Believe Diorama and mini interviews.

: I know there was also the BETA and product promotion.

: Have i missed anything else that was more story related rather than just
: about promotion?

I'm pretty sure none of it was canon in the exact sense that "this took place somewhere around the time of H3). The whole AdjutantReflex thing is I guess a sort of meta-activity where Mendicant Bias speaks to the fan community about the Flood? I don't know, I never really got into Iris. Neal Blomkamp's stuff, I don't think is exactly canon, but it fits perfectly well with the H3 storyline, so why the hell not? Believe, I am forced to conclude, is noncanon, simply from a dearth of anywhere to fit it in the timeline. Pity, it was awesome.

The one real exception to is the opening sequence of Starry Night: I'm pretty sure that this literally takes place as an actual memory from John's childhood.
