They have some 'egal : recourse, even under the terms of the military contracts', but it has : 'never happened once in the history of the Spartan-II project'. So what : happened in the two years between Cortana and Solipsil's conversation and : Maria's retirement? Maria is from the Graphic Novel right? I thought it has been speculated that she might have been a Spartan I... but maybe that's my own speculation. We don't know much about the Spartan I's and what Cortana says in the Conversations booklet may not apply to them. I think one of the characters in the I Love Bees (I know that might not be canon) had a parent who was a Spartan I as well.
