Maybe (if we accept the idea that the Halo rings destroy folks' central nervous systems [that's what CNS means by the way]) the Gravemind doesn't have a central nervous system in the way that Humans or Forerunner or other sentient beings do. I mean, if the gravemind is the collective consciousness of the Flood, then its nervous system wouldn't be central for one thing, it'd be diffuse and it'd consist of all sentient flood, yeah? But then again if its nervous system did comprise all the sentient Flood, then when the Halo fired and killed those guys, the gravemind would be left totally unnerved. Or maybe when a sentient being is enfloodinated its central nervous system is altered in a such a way that the Halos have no effect. But then that wouldn't account for this bit about ships being piloted by Flooders going adrift after the firing.
