In Response To: Re: Updated and abbreviated list, errors amended (Stephen L. (SoundEffect)) : But does "Sententia" not also translate to 'sentient' or : self-awareness? I would think the Gravemind would translate to 'Sentient : Dead' much more meaningfully. No, because it doesn't translate as 'Sentient' -- the words look misleadingly similar, but Latin for 'Sentient' is 'Sensilis'. 'Sententia' has, broadly, two meanings: 1) As a noun, it means 'way of thinking', or 'opinion' (think English 'sentiment') -- most commonly used in formal political contexts in ancient Rome. 2) As a verb (rarely used), it means 'to pronounce sentence on', 'condemn' (think English 'sentence'). The verb form is the only one that makes sense to me here. At first I thought maybe they went for an English wording that made sense (The dead way of thinking), and just bungled the Latin; but that was before I found out that there was a verb form with a different meaning. It's an open question, in any case. I agree that 'Sentient dead' or similar would be very appropriate -- but the closest possible Latin wording that would produce that is 'Inferi Sensiles'.
