: It's possible that they could be fit into a kingdom, and if not, new kingdoms
: can be made.
: The Linnaean system is open to new things.

The problem is that the common ancestor is the same for all species so there is no point in including it in the species name.

You would have:

common-seed Human
common-seed Elite
common-seed Prophet
common-seed Jackal
common-seed Hunter
common-seed cat
common-seed bacterium

The common-seed part doesn't tell us how closely Elites are to Humans or cats to bacteria. We get one important piece of information, that all living organisms have a common ancestor. But after that its just a waste of space.

I don't think that inventing new kingdoms would help because no Prophet would belong to any kingdom that a Human would belong to. No jackal would belong to any kingdom that contained Grunts. Well except that all organisms are members of the group that holds the common seed and all its descendants.

We would have to abandon any pretense that our taxa were based on the idea of common descent. (I think that most taxonomists would fight you tooth and nail over that idea. :-) )

So we could say that any Haloverse species that had something vaugely like a segmented backbone was a 'vertebrate'. Even though our 'vertebrates' wouldn't share a common ancestor with vertebrae.

It goes against the grain to even consider doing that but I can see the fun in it. But ultimately I'd consider it pointless.
