: If you want to subscribe to the rare earth theory, maybe the Covenant were : simply surprised that this planet which contained the Ark, also happened : to be the planet where we lived. What are the odds? Rather small, I admit. "One final gateway"? I haven't been catching up on this sort of thing for a while, but does it imply that there were other Arks scattered around and that Earth was the only one within Covenant reach? Strangely ironic, that the same reason humans survived is the reason why humans are sought after to be destroyed.
