Hypothesis: Perhaps the device detects the massive amount of energy from the incoming plasma, and directs it's energy to blocking that threat rather than protecting equally along the whole sphere. i.e, the 'detonator' of the shield mechanism has a sensor that might read energy levels or radiation levels? You never know, those ONI Section-III guys are ninjas. It's possible they made a specifically anti-plasma weapon shield. |
