There are all sorts of possiblities for how this came about, including someone at Bungie still really likeing the idea of a Halo RTS and approaching MS aobut how to make it happen. Frankly, it doesn't really matter how it happened, when it comes to the Halogen question. (Seriously, it does not matter - MS could have seen Halogen and thought "hey, good idea! Let's shut them down and make a Halo RTS!" - it still would work out the same way.) Halogen's developers were working with IP that was not their's. They knew that. They were hoping that MS/Bungie wouldn't get pissed about it. Well, they did get pissed about it and, frankly, understandably. The idea that Halogen would not have any appreciable effect on the market for MS's video games (and that is the market, udnerstandably, that MS is concerned about) is ridiculous, ESPECIALLY if halogen was going to be any good. Of course it was goign to affect the market. Personally, I probably wouldn't buy C&C Generals just to play Halogen, but I'm looking forward to finding out what they are turning it into.
