Who : else can carry on making them so Bungie can develop more original : intellectual property, and what kind of game can that be? : Well, Microsoft has a good RTS developer in-house. They want to make an RTS : game for the Xbox 360; MS wants that so they can extend the appeal of the : console to new genres, just as Halo solidified the Xbox as a console for : FPS gamers. And *I* think it emerged like this: Bungie was minding its own business, and MS said Ensemble is going to do this RTS, can you be happy about it? Internally Bungie was conflicted... the folks in charge might very well like Ensemble's work, maybe have enjoyed AoE, but they don't like not having this under their control... it's their baby. But a quick look at who holds the pursestrings and IP strings means they have to put up, within reason, with whatever MS wants to do. A Halo RTS is within reason. So they hop on board, everyone puts on a smiling face and work proceeds apace. Neither you nor I know factually what occurred, making either scenario entirely plausible. My scenario doesn't deny that Ensemble could indeed create a kick-ass game, nor that in the end the Halo Universe is indeed served well with such a game to continue to let them tell the stories they want to tell. - M
