I just couldn't word it so succinctly... Halo stole my heart from the first person perspective, and it always felt more, as I've put it before, "engaging and visceral" from that perspective. I FEEL the story more. Agh, I keep getting the "oh you're just averse to change" arguement, but I simply don't know if I can enjoy the story from such a disengaged perspective. We'll see. I just hope Ensemble breaks away from the "story-through-cutscene" followed by "vaguely-related-action" formula.
