In Response To: Re: Wrong levels? (Wado SG) : Gah, you are correct. I must have got my wires crossed. I think it
True, but most of the other areas we visit in Halo seem far more sparse and functional. Or else very dark. : So we are seeing it on the way out (to the surface world) of the facility's
Yes indeed. : I think maybe we have underestimated the importance of the Cartographer.
Well, I think it's difficult to ascribe any more or less importance than there is on the surface. Notice that Halo 2 dispenses with the idea entirely; they identify the Library by its external appearance-- no doubt provided by Cortana, since we never see the Library from the outside in Halo 1. What you're suggesting makes the map room more important in general, but less specific. If there's a pictogram on the walls of the corridors leading to the map room, I'm inclined to try and interpret them as illustrating the process of reading a map, or looking up a location, rather than firing the installation, since that action is not performed there, and is only one of (conceivably) many actions which may take place on the ring, the majority of which would be routine and perhaps related to scientific study of the Flood, rather than the activation of a fail-safe self-destruct mechanism. : I really think that there is a possibility that the security overrides in
Think you're reading in too much. Not only does it directly contradict Cortana's, but it doesn't gain anything reading it this way-- it doesn't make sense of anything later in the story that we can't already explain, for instance. : I think Cortana is wrong. I think the Master Chief could have unlocked
If that were the case I think Bungie would have made it abundantly clear somehow. There's little point in making the MC responsible and then being quiet about it. Keep in mind, this isn't a real universe where things happen by accident and not everything is known. It's a carefully constructed universe. Everything exists for a reason. You can make up any sequence of events you like that don't contradict with what we already know, but if it doesn't answer a question you have then whether it's true or not doesn't end up mattering. : If this be the case, the facility housing the Cartographer is very important.
I suppose. : I think the Cartographer can make a map of anything known to the Forerunner,
Again, whether it's consistent or not doesn't matter. If knowing that doesn't illuminate some part of the story we have a question about, then it's pointless to argue about whether it could be true or might be true.
