Then how do explain the dry docks? The sea wall? The missing coastal cities?

Also, I remembered another clue: in one of the ilovebees sound files, Jan and a soldier have this exchange:

Jan: Hey, I'm new in Boston... what's worth seeing around here?
Soldier: Well there's a pretty cool scuba tour of the old subway tunnel. You want a guide? I'd be glad to volunteer.

Apparently, the city of Boston either couldn't save or didn't want to save its subway system from the rising water... or maybe subways aren't necessary anymore, after the invention of maglevs and automatic highways.
