When you find yourself up against 3 guys in Blood Gulch: 1 with the Sniper on that cliff ramp next to the Blue Base, 1 with a Scorpion on the Blue base's side, and the other with a Scorpion on the Red's side, come talk to me about being able to fight spawnkills with the pistol. I've played Halo1 for over a year before Halo2 came out, and still play it to this day, though I find myself playing Halo2 a bit more. The point is that with the pistol, you negate the need to have other weapons. In the overall sense I feel it is, yes. But the big difference is that he presented it with respect, intelligence, and a greater amount of forethought than want is usually seen in most Hal1>Halo2 arguement. Given the rate of fire and the fact that only 3 shots to the head are needed to bring someone down I find your analysis of close range combat a bit off as far as the PR and AR go. Sword is a moot point as it is not in the game. Shotgun>Pistol? Yes, but only if you are close enough to get a one hit kill. Compare the two weapons rate of fire and a Shotgun can be taken down with more expediency than a Pistol.
