Hey, dont worry, the there was no Greek identity until much later, in fact it was only really wars against the Persians that prevented the rest of the indepentant cities from fighting each other. (sound kinda familiar? Human race before the first contact with the Covenant.)

The spartans died at Thermypolae (can never spell it right) to buy the rest of the Greek (athens, corith etc.) time to get an army together to fight the invasion.
