: As for the Prophets and Elites being on the same world...

: Your explanation is plausible. It must be very rare for two sentient species
: to evolve at the same time. Except, perhaps, if they had a common ancestor
: or were locked in an evolutionary 'arms race' to intelligence.

: They both have long necks but their jaws are so different that its hard to
: believe that they share a common ancestor.

: Maybe Prophets ancestors were Elite ancestors' prey and they were caughtin an
: evolutionary arms race that lead to both races developing intelligence in
: lock-step.

: In a big universe anything can happen.

Wow.

Nice theory mrbananas. Positively brilliant. Wouldn't it be funny if Truth found out that not only him, but his entire race and culture was a mistake :-)

In another point, however, there is no way that Prophets and Sangheli are related in anything more than a massively distant way, like the difference between us and insects. They have different coloured blood. Elites are that purplish-bluey colour we know so well, but Prophets (you can see from punching up Regret) have red, human-coloured blood. Have a different blood colour menas that the genetic lineages must have diverged at a very early stage; to change they chemical to transport oxygen (which they seem to need). Indeed, if they come from the same planet the fact that two similarish species have different coloured blood is a form of confirmation that they orgininated from other place before they were put together by the muck-up.

The logic of the human-Forerunner connection seems to make sense, too.
