Information on "The Glide dragon"

Glide Dragon

Latin name:

Drago Della Scivalata

Dragáta

Introduction:

The Glide dragon is a creature that lives near the lakes of Delta Halo. Though once they populated all of Delta Halos surface, they are very slowly dying out as what was once a peaceful land is now sparsely populated by race known as the Covenant. This "cult", as it is, uses the Glide Dragon as sniper practices as they are slow, easy targets. Fortunately the Covenant has not covered the entire ring and so in most places the Glide Dragon flows freely in the wind.
Though the Glide Dragon looks like a Dragonfly at a distance, they are in fact related to the butterfly and moth family. It eats off a healthy diet of smaller insects and fish, nectar and tree sap, found on Delta. It’s only known enemy is a predator bird, related to the Gull, which, despite its size, relies on the Glide dragon for food, as it does not fight back.

Movement:

The Glide dragon hovers and floats in the direction of the wind, though if it wants to steer, it can flap its wings whilst keeping the tips virtually horizontal.

After a while it looses all sense of direction and needs to re-find its bearings. To do this, the Glide dragon flies face first with the wind and rises high.

Below shows live footage of the Glide dragon moving. The first couple of stops show the direction in which it flaps its wings. Also in the animation below, it shows how the Glide dragon rises high.

When gliding it is almost completely flat, apart from two feelers at the bottom of its chest. These are used to help steer the Glide dragon, and to help it land. Though not seen anywhere the Glide dragon does have legs and arms. Like most insects the Glide dragon hides its legs in flight, and because nobody has seen a Glide dragon not in-flight, no one knows exactly what the legs look like.

Head:

Though not clear from any footage as of yet, we are almost certain that the Glide dragon has 6 eyes, like most insects. However unlike most insects the Glide dragon has eyes on both sides of its head. This is so it can see a 360 radius around its whole body. Using a 3dimention program I have reconstructed what the head of the Glide dragon looks like:

Torso:

Below show some pictures created by the same 3dimention simulator above, showing the whole body of the Glide dragon:

Also, using a complex program, the below shows a photograph of the ruins of Delta Halo, with some computer enhanced Glide dragons, flying above its surface.
