L1 is in between the two bodies. L4 and L5 are off to the sides. L3 is on the opposite side of the larger body, while L2 is on the other side of the smaller body. It is possible that the ring of Halo follows a halo orbit (coincidentally or not) around the point. The two gravitational forces would tend to draw objects moving perpendicular to the line in between the bodies back toward the point, as it is closer to both. So, an orbit around such a point would entail falling toward a point of balance instead of a massive body. Fragments would not be held in by Halo's structure as much as by gravity. So, the explosion may not have thrown the fragments with much besides the force of the explosion. However, given the scale of Halo and the rotation speed, this may not be so. Someone would have to do the math to figure out the actual level of plausibility. |
