"Coolness" and "Cheating" | |

Mysteries are cool. Some easter eggs are mysterious. In our little game development world we have the ability to put cool things all over the place, and make them really hard to capture or find in real time. In my opinion there are at least a couple ways to destroy the “coolness” of these mysteries. One way is to simply crack open all the content on the disk and analyze it outside of the context in which it was meant to be found. It’s not actually “cheating” but it kind of feels that way to me. I know that there is content on our disk that is actually impossible to be discovered by playing the game. Sometimes it’s just easier to ship it rather than risk breaking the game by removing it. Another way to kill the coolness is to have someone like me explain the thing in detail. No one really wants that to happen, especially me. I’m pretty sure that there is still plenty left to see, and hear in Halo 2 that hasn’t been seen or heard yet. Have you heard that music yet? Have you heard Sgt. Jones actually dictate that letter yet? Have fun, stay cool. Oh, and by the way, that was a cool poem in that music wasn't it? Wow, I wonder what it means... |
