For a moment there I thought you had seen a picture of Lou after a few sleepless nights! ^.^ However, it seems you found the one out of the book. :)

Anyways, as other people have said, Bungie did take creative influences form this book and incorporated them into the Halo series. There are also a few other books such as Starhammer, and The Vang series which have influenced the Halo series as well. Unfortunately I couldn't find a link on the HSP to them, apart from Finn and mnemesis telling you to read them.
