In Response To: Speculation Galore! (Marcus)

: Anyone who would like to post any type of speculation regarding Halo 2,
: please do so!

: If Halo 2 is going to bring us to Human victory and the defeat of the
: Covenant, I have a couple ideas on how we might arrive to that victory.

: 1 Political Upheaval - From the novels, I get this feeling that the Covenant
: isn't the benevolent oligarchy the prophets would like to have. There
: seems to be a large amount of distrust between the races in the Covenant,
: and a potential flash-point between them might be the Prophet-Brute
: partnership and Elites. I very much doubt that Humans could ally
: themselves with any of those races as a whole. Although, there is also a
: chance the Prophets are using the Human-Covenant war as a
: "Distraction" for what they feel is an inevitable Civil War, or
: at least a drastic shift in power as well as in their caste system. This
: is also very much connected to the semi-popular "Humans are
: Forunner" theory.

: 2 The use of a Halo - It seems possible that on our own, Humans might be able
: to repel a Covenant invasion of Earth. What doesn't seem possible (at
: least at this point), is a successful Human offensive (an invasion) on the
: Covenant homeworld. We know we're going to stick it to the Covenant on
: their ground, as told to us by Bungie. Why would we need to go on with an
: operation against the Covenant homeworld if we could just fire a Halo
: within range of it (and out of range of Earth)? In Halo 2 it's possible
: that we do fire a Halo to wipe out most of the Covenant Empire, but their
: homeworld could be out of it's range. That might call for a...

: 3 Spartan Offensive - A covert Spartan offensive against the Covenant
: homeworld, to be exact. Please, sit back and salivate at this one: The
: last level or two of Halo 2, all of the remaining Spartans infiltrate the
: Covenant Homeworld, either by stealth ship, or hijacking/catching a ride
: with a Covenant ship. They have a Nova(s). They are ordered to plant the
: Nova(s) as deep into the Covenant homeworld as they can go, arm/detonate
: them, and escape. This end of the story might call for the Chief to...

: 4 Sacrifice your life - In Halo 2, what if Bungie's "big finale"
: for the last campaign level led to the Master Chief's death? A glorious,
: sac-tacular death that ensures Human victory over the Covenant (and
: perhaps the eradication of the Flood)? If Halo 2 were to determine the end
: of Human-Covenant War, somehow I feel like it would be almost fitting for
: the Chief's life to end, with his conscious decision to give his life for
: ultimate victory...a badass ending for a badasses' end.

: But, I'm just trying to spark some speculation. Besides Frankie's updates, I
: look forward to random speculation (by anyone) that makes you think about
: where Halo's story might go.

: So, please, respond with your own speculation, or perhaps just your reaction
: to mine ('I'd like an order of conjecture, hold the flames, please').

: =D

Time travel? Not a chance. Use another Halo on the Covenant Homeworld? Almost surely. Read Starhammer. I'm pretty sure, and I bet Louis will agree with me here, that the end of Halo 2 will probably be a lot like the end of Starhammer, unless, of course, there's going to be a Halo 3.

Cheers!
