Likely, this was done very deliberately, but : whether or not the intent was to trap the message in the black hole's : accretion disc, the asteroids, or both is unknown. : In short, we have a result that's half message-in-a-bottle, and half time : capsule. Someone essentially used a black hole as a CD-R. We later learn : that the message sent by pulse-laser is a set of coordinates. : Why is this information important to Cortana? It's important to her because : it's important to the Covenant. It's important to the Covenant probably : because they know that it will lead them to an artifact of the : Forerunners; whether or not they know that it's the coordinate set for a : Halo or some other structure (if any exist) is not known. : So, essentially, this all breaks down to Cortana figuring out that the rock : is more valuable than she'd estimated, and that the "code" it : holds is very, very important, somehow. : And the rest, as they say, is history (sorta). : ~Socrates i think that maybe the forerunners sent it at a blackhole because the forerunners on other side might know how to retrieve it (i mean they seem pretty advance). they sent at a blackhole because the forerunner would know how to read it but no one else would. you see what i mean?
