In Response To: Re: I'll try -Long (Wado SG) There may be a couple of problems here: Halo does not directly kill Flood. Also, to mind an outbreak implies Flood travelling from planet to planet eating the sentient populations, most likely through slipspace. A pulse laser as you've described, and any subsequent radiation released from a the target black hole would travel only at the speed of light, taking maybe 100s of 1000s of years to sterilise the galaxy. And by the time this has happened the Flood could be everywhere. Sure, any sentients left would be wiped out, meaning no more food for Flood (unless intelligent life has crawled its way back up on planets closer to the Halos) but what happened to the Flood on Halo when they had no food? They went dormant. This would mean planets everywhere would have sleeping Flood on them, waiting for the native life to evolve. I think the only logical way for the firing of Halo to work is by a FTL, perhaps instantaneous mechanism. So if the Flood do get spaceborne and reach something's homeworld, its too late for dinner. Oh, also, the thing about "local years" etc: If Source, Halo's sun, is approximately the same as ours (it looks like it in the game) then Threshold, Basis and Halo must be orbiting in the narrow Habitable Zone, around 1 astronomical unit in radius. This would make local years pretty similar to Earth years.
